Dear Parents,

We are so excited that your youth will be participating in this outdoor adventure! We know you will have some questions and hope this will help answer them for you!

WHAT DO THEY NEED TO BRING AND DO I NEED TO BUY ALL OF IT RIGHT NOW?

Here is the Personal Equipment List that is sent to every Section Scouter that registers with the camp.  LABEL EVERYTHING… we do not need to feed the dirty t-shirt goddess and we would love for everything they bring to return where it came from. Many of the items on this list are regulated by Scouts Canada or are first aid and safety measures…if you would like further explanation please ask your Scouters and they can find out for you.

Please be sure to communicate with your group as they might have additions, specifics, amounts or other troop gear that you can borrow or use.

The Camp DOES NOT supply the personal gear. We do have the Canoes and extra paddles provided at the camp but if your youth has their own personal paddle that they love be sure to clearly label it when you send it with them.

Communicate with your Scouters if your child has medical needs and be sure you update their registration form online so the Scouters can present all of the necessary information should medical attention or contact home be required (Be Prepared).

There is NO emergency phone at camp for public use. So many people have cellphones and we are in the wilderness. If there is an EMERGENCY  at home please be sure you have the contact information of your Scouters and be patient. Cell Reception can be spotty. There is an emergency plan for the camp should it need to be used, it is very important your contact information and alternate contact information is up to date prior to your youth being registered for camp.

HOW DO I GET TO CAMP

Your Scouter has been provided with a map AND written directions that state the weather challenges and best way to get to our site. The camp staff is very seasoned and experienced with these roads and are able to get into and out of the camp grounds in all weather. However, if the roads are wet please heed the warnings in the directions so we may keep the roads in the best conditions possible and your vehicle safe.

WHAT WILL MY CHILD BE DOING

The program is divided up into stages based upon the ages of the youth. This creates a fabulous learning environment for all of the youth. Each stage has a program that is designed for that specific age group which will provide a learning and growth opportunity for their outdoor adventure skills and individual self confidence. Youth are kept with their same aged peers throughout the program and learn the skills they need to continue from the seasoned youth and Stage Scouters…however, you can support your youth best by ensuring they know how to use their equipment, that they have packed their gear and can find it in their bags (it is totally fine to supervise to ensure it gets into the bag but the youth will be the ones who need to get it at camp), and have the appropriate gear. Camp may be wet, dry, hot, cold, windy, sunny, cloudy all on the same day during a beautiful SK summer so they need to be able to access all of that gear and know where it is in their bags. If you are not comfortable teaching your youth how to use their gear or fitting their backpacks please talk to your Section Scouters so they can help your youth out. The onus is on the youth to Plan, Do and Review with support of their peers at this age, help us help them get there.IMG_7345
